Learning Objective and Program Content

On December 22, 2017, H.R. 1, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, was signed into law. There are significant changes for individuals, businesses and tax-exempt entities. These include changes to itemized deductions; accounting methods for small businesses; a new deduction for some sole proprietors, partnerships and S corporations; limitations on some deductions and losses; changes to fringe benefits; and a new international tax regime for corporations. Highlights will be covered along with areas where past planning approaches need to change.

About Our Speaker:

Annette Nellen is a tax professor in the College of Business at San Jose State University and directs the MS Taxation program. She is the chair of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ Tax Executive Committee, and co-chair of the CalCPA Accounting Education Committee. Annette is a frequent author and presenter and a regular contributor to State Tax Notes. She is an editor and author of three of Cengage’s Southwestern federal tax textbooks. She has a blog called “21 st Century Taxation” about tax reforms and moving tax systems into the 21 st century. She is a graduate of CSU-Northridge with a BS in Accounting, Pepperdine University with an MBA, and Loyola Law School in Los Angeles with a JD. Her certifications include CPA, CGMA, and attorney (Esq).

Reservations or cancellations are requested by noon on the Friday preceding each meeting.
Email Jeff Olevson  to reserve or cancel. The goal is an accurate count for the hotel. 

Per chapter rules, member or guests who are registered and do not attend will be billed if not cancelled by noon the preceding Friday. We do want you to come to the meetings and reservations are helpful, but if you have to cancel let us know beforehand to avoid incurring the cost of the meal.
